Outdoor
Education
We realize that today's busy volunteer is hard pressed to take more time away from their families for training, especially on weekends. Our goal is to help you enjoy Camp Maha with your girls and to look forward to experiencing the outdoor adventure.
So as of April 13, 2007, Girl Scouts - Great Plains Council no longer requires Outdoor A training in order for troops to lodge camp. Outdoor B - Intro to Tent Camping is merging with Outdoor Skills and Fire-building and is re-named Camp Maha Outdoor Skills Training. It is our hope that with requiring only one outdoor training, leaders and helpful parents will find it easier to experience the out-of-doors with their girls.

Camp Maha Outdoor Skills
**NEW** This training has two parts. You may take both parts or just one depending on the needs of your girls.
In this course you will have the opportunity to explore Camp Maha, experience overnight camping in a platform tent, prepare meals over the campfire, use a propane stove and lantern, pitch a backpack tent, explore program opportunities, and participate in several ceremonies. Adults successfully completing this course receive a three-year certification to take troops/groups tent camping in council-owned or approved camps. Girls entering ninth grade may take this course for Camp Aide training.
Outdoor Skills Part One
This is a great way to enhance your lodge camping experience and progress to building an outdoor fire, cooking outdoors, and learning fire ring clean-up. This course prepares you to have a positive outdoor cooking experience with your girls and is required if you want to cook outdoors or have a campfire outdoors. Course is just three and a half hours.
Cost: $10 Members
Outdoor Skills Part Two
This part follows outdoor fire building and cooking with overnight tent camping that along with Part I completes your training for the total outdoor experience. It prepares you to be comfortable with overnight camping in platform tents and is required before you can take your girls tent camping. If you sign up for part two you will meet requirements for fire building, outdoor cooking and overnight tent camping.
Cost: $5 Members

CPR/First Aide Training Courses
According to Safety-Wise 2000: "A Girl Scout First-Aider is an adult who has taken Girl Scout council-approved First Aide and CPR training. First-Aiders are needed for physically demanding activities and other activities involving a potential for injury."
Level 1 First Aid is required of the adult acting as the primary First-Aider for the Girl Scout group activities indicated in the activity checkpoints.
CPR training must be adequate for the participants in the activity covered by the First-Aider. For example, child CPR for children younger than eight and adult CPR for older girls and adults.
The following health care providers may also serve as First-Aiders for Girl Scout groups: physician, physician's assistant, nurse practitioner, registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, paramedic, military medic, or emergency medical technician.
